Ridding Yourself of the Workplace Blues

  1. First determine if you love your job. If that is the cause then look for another job. If you still like what you are doing then proceed on.

  2. Figure out how you can help improve your working environment incorporating those improvements throughout your place of work.

  3. Make a list of all the things you dislike about your job and or place of employment.

  4. Write about each of the problems in a journal, making sure you have a motivating title for each subject you write about. Putting your thoughts to paper is a powerful form of stress reduction.

  5. Improve the quality of your life outside the workplace.

  6. Question if you have enough personal time that allows you a time-out after work.

  7. Make sure you leave all your work at the office. Table talk should be about life and what it has to offer.

  8. Set goals at your job so you can be rewarded for your efforts. You have to understand that employees who make an effort are the ones who get the rewards. Just doing you job is not enough. Go that extra mile.

  9. Embrace all the changing an employer asks of you.

  10. Make sure you arrive on time, generally 10 to 15 early so you can get your morning coffee and have the morning chit-chat before work starts. This is like a warm up exercise you would do before a workout.

  11. Always be ready to put in a full-days work, leaving your personal problems at home.

  12. Avoid hanging around fellow workers that always complain about something they don't like.

  13. When change is asked of you, welcome it with open arms. If the change can be improved upon after working with it for a while then it would be acceptable to write up your suggestions.

If these simple suggestions have not made your workplace blues evaporate, then a much harder look at what is bothering needs to be done. Seeking the help of a therapist might be in order or you can practice the medically proven journaling techniques in our most popular book: Count Your Life With Smiles, Not Tears.
